Being an artist, especially full time, can feel like tossing leaves into a well and waiting to hear the splash. But don’t worry you’ll make an impact eventually if you keep going.
What happens in the margins of our plans often holds more influence that we recognize.
In the Margins is a monthly live series for writers, dreamers, and creatives. Each session will be a conversation around craft-adjacent (or marginal) activities occurring while we are working on our overarching plot: Careers, dreams, WIPS, and personal goals. The things that shape the work.
Upcoming Live Sessions
June Friday the 13th: The Magic of Sound – live with from NY.
Together we’ll explore the invisible, often overlooked force that shapes both our inner lives and outer realities: sound. We will discuss sound’s ability to shape matter, shift mood, influence consciousness, and rewire the brain. From infrasound and solfeggio frequencies to chants, language patterns, and the way poetry uses rhythm to bypass the rational mind—we’ll be investigating where science meets mystery.
We’ll also touch on sound as a weapon, a healer, and a hypnotic tool, and ask: how can we protect ourselves from harmful sound, and how can we use it to live more consciously
May 8th: Overcoming Writers Block – live with from the East Coast.
Matt has a trained eye for the stumbling blocks that hinder us from growing or living in our purpose with peace and to our full strength. Together we will be chatting specifically about writers block, and how in many ways it is misnomer, and how it can usually resolved by recognizing and identifying the cause.
Accompanying Texts:
May 2nd: Networking & My first Book Fair – live from Atlanta Writers Conference
Writing is often a solitary act—but publishing never is. For May, In the Margins session, I’ll be going live a few times from AWC to talk about the moments between the panels, the quiet conversations, and the unexpected mentorships that shape a writer’s journey.
Are you preparing to publish? or still in the messy middle? Just curious? This one’s for you. Tune in for insight, reflection, and a prompt to help you map your literary constellation.
April 26th: Inspiration at the Edge – live from The Bahamas
Four months ago, I stood by the sea and decided to change my life. On April 26th, I’m going live from the same place where I chose clarity and wrote a poem in the moment that will forever hold that decision in it’s margins: Saving Breakers. Join me In the Margins—a Substack Live session on writing from liminal spaces, making powerful decisions, and finding meaning in the scribble.
I’ll read the poem (Saving Breakers), discuss how this place became a pivot point in my career, and offer a prompt to stir your own edges. Bring your journal, or just your attention.
Want to come along? Subscribe, show up live, or catch the replay here each month. And if something stirs in you, leave a note in the comments. I will also happily share work, with permission, that comes out of these sessions. So send them to me if you want to participate.
