City Seeds (2024)

Blood sprayed concrete. A city 
landscape, unruly with violence. 
Families surrendered belonging(s).
Felt the rhythm of the city, and fled 
shaking.     A sunflower blooms 
and turns, unintentionally feeds a family 
of birds. The Farmer hums a tune, tuning, 
collecting wayward seeds. For the future
rediscovered roots, in rural plains. Happy 
in a state of growth, a homestead in North Georgia, 
learning the difference, between sprout and sapling. 
Frost arrests the field. Crops yield.
They bring home something new.
Seasons are cycles to which mankind 
is bound. The city reaches, but they keep out 
of touch. Home is where her heart is 
Safe. Perennial spirits return to growth,
with twice the branches, flowers then fruit.
One year later, the home's steady.
They name the crows on the fence.
This murder, a blessing. Astonishing 
all, avoiding drought. Oh the miracle 
of timely rain. They know what it is now, 
to smell of earth, to sense a storm coming.
There is wonder in the water, no? Grow 
or wilt. Families of birds are fed 
each morning. The smell of fresh hay. Again 
a harvest, once more a frost. The thrum of the cycle.
New life, all around, surrounding.
Flowers thriving vs. dying. Lying 
atop a casket. An old rooster crows,
Good Mourning.

1. You are listening to your favorite music, and remembering why you should play music more often.

2. You just got a notification that someone liked your post.

3. You catch a glimpse of the full moon unexpectedly through an open window.

4. The smell of an old book : A book before bedtime.

5. You wake up before your alarm and realize you still have time to sleep.

6. The smell of coffee or tea brewing in the morning

7. Brand new clothes : Your clothes fit great.

8. You discover a forgotten $20 bill in your pocket : A friend pays for lunch.

9. Birds Singing : Feeding the birds.

10. Neon sunsets : Creaking boats.

11. The perfect pen stroke : A fresh notebook.

12. The smell of rain on hot pavement : Gentle rainfall on your windowpane.

13. You get a text from an old friend : Making plans for the future.

14. You hit every green light : Knowing a local shortcut in traffic.

15. You remember you can be whoever you want.

16. Removing a sticker perfectly without leaving residue.

17. Breeze on a hot day : Wind chimes chiming.

18. A plant you’ve been taking care of sprouts new leaves.

19. You get complimented by a stranger : Honeysuckle in the air.

20. Your gas tank is fuller than you thought.

21. You pull a warm towel out of the dryer and wrap yourself in it.

22. Seeing kindness in the world : Being the kindness in the world.

23. Finding the exact right words to describe how you’re feeling.

24. Watching a pet curl up in a sunbeam : You’re not overthinking.

25. The moment the pain starts to fade away.

26. Inside jokes : They laugh at your joke.

27. Hot Baths : Bubbles : Self care.

28. Flowers Blooming : Growing your own fruit : Eating your own fruit.

29. You walk barefoot on soft grass : The smell of fresh cut grass.

30. You try a new recipe you already have all the ingredients for.

31. Watching a candle flicker in a dimly lit room.

32. You learn something new : You teach someone.

33. You listen to an old voicemail from a loved one.

34. The smell of fresh baked chocolate chip cookies.

35. You send a nice text to a loved one just because.

36. Seeing leaves swirl perfectly in the wind.

37. Successfully merging into traffic with ease.

38. Getting lost in a good book and realizing hours have passed.

39. You catch it before it falls : You fix it before it breaks.

40. Finding a parking spot right in front of where you need to be.

41. Hitting the exact right note while singing.

42. Running your fingers over a well-loved piece of fabric.

43. When you can’t tell whose giving or getting a hug.

44. Watching fireflies : Finding a show that makes you get lost in wonder.

45. A dog wags its tail when it sees you.

46. You’re laughing, and laughing, and crying.

47. Smelling the perfume a loved one used to wear.

48. Stargazing, and remembering just how small we are.

49. You sit in complete silence, and

50. know you can come back to this space anytime you want.

How often do you think about the scale of our existence?

The universe is vast, but so is the world inside a single atom. Everything is Relative. A mountain appears as a small stone—or knee-level flora become forests—with clever perspective-manipulation in a photograph. Under the right lens, a droplet of water can hold an entire universe, with complex ecosystems and their very own celebrity appearances: water bears (Tardigrades). In the following pieces I’ve done my best to create a series of imagery that captures this feeling of existential wonder with scale disorientation.

As you scroll meditate on how our problems change based on perspective. Do they become smaller as we bring our awareness to encompass the entire universe?

We exists in worlds.

where edges between vast / minuscule b l u r.

                       —we are both impossibly small and pragmatically large.

Real Wise Owls

I prefer whirring 
Drills to naked ears,
than the screeches 
of someone knowing.
But only when joy is stolen 
by correction. Missiles seeking 
smiles with higher vantage
points of pretension:
    Tension forced before illusion.
Slick talons ripping into song,
like scalpels slicing down 
pillows, losing hoards of feathers.
Falling joy, floating joy-
full collections.

Every One is Everyone

Small pink lungs swell 
in unison, each sigh, a pulse, 

a wave. When kindness seeps out,
it pours in. Slipping grins in,

like bills slid through narrow slits,  
time waged on the collective.

Every One :: Everyone.

Gentle ballerinas tilt and meld 
into mercury. Liquid mirrors of 

Brother and Sister, and our Father 
who arts, Mother nature thriving.

One motion, in tandem.
Our dance is a golden law.

Unwanted Enigma

In the cavity of departed desire,
Mind unburdened,  a still lake forms,
Content. able to take any shape.

A freedom found under surrender. 
Liberties not bred from thrustings 
Of acquisition, but in yielding breath. 

Acceptance air, belonging  
To the non-seeking.
Oh what an envious power 

Potential in the wantless, 
In the complete. Carnal
Hands, swaying palms, 

Finger-painting with water.
The art is the emptiness, a canvas blank.
Pleading for nothing, finding immunity 

From persuasion.  A proof for peace,
Solving for, an inert state.  Any debt 
Is reconciled from past & future.
   
That we exist here, made whole, is all we...
After the climax of resolve, a snag:

And the Spirit testifies- 
Oh wise one, under not, embers glow.
A fire put out, but barely.
For plenty is known about the joy of enough,
but little is shared of the yearning
for freedom from and of,
                                             the wanting.
